Transcriptions recital
on: January 09, 2010, 12:02:05 PM
Just finished uploading the videos from my first-ever (amateur) recital, on October 30. Any kind of feedback, comments and criticism would be welcome!

Brahms: Variations from String Sextet op. 18

Glinka-Balakirev: The Lark

Schubert-Tausig: Marche Militaire

Chopin: Souvenir de Paganini

Mozart-Thalberg: Voi che Sapete

Schubert-Liszt: Ständchen (Serenade)

Wagner-Liszt: Tannhäuser Overture (Part 1, Part 2)

Encore: Schubert-R.Strauss: Kupelwieser Waltz

Program Notes (PDF, German only)

P.S. I also played another piece, Busoni's Carmen Fantasy (right before the Tannhäuser), but I was not so happy with that one. I'll have another opportunity to try soon again...

Well done on your recital debut. :) An interesting and varied program.

I enjoyed the Chopin, Balakirev, Standchen and the encore most. You demonstrate praiseworthy commitment to communicating the musical aspects of the pieces. The only weak spot is the Tannhauser, and I don't intend to harp on about it, as not only is it horrendously difficult, but I think you were having memory problems as well.

The Chopin is very well played, I think, and your filigree in the Balakirev was impressively clear. The singing tone was good in the Mozart-Thalberg, as in the Standchen. I think you have a few small problems with chord execution in the Tausig, but overall, a job well done.

Hi Ronde,
many thanks for listening and for your comments! Yes, I had a little memory lapse in the Tannhaeuser (in the easiest part, pilgrim's theme right before the Venusberg (fast middle section)) and there's a long to do list for this piece - I'll let it rest for a couple of months now, but I'll be back  :D
I hope things are going well for you - any news regarding the recording project?

I've got all the pieces selected, with one optional extra. Most of them are in decent shape and two of them I'm revising/re-learning. I'm planning to test-run them in front of someone whose opinion I trust (and who I can rely on to point out the irritating little mistakes which creep in sometimes) probably April/May. Then it should be onto recording (I have a venue chosen). I'm not looking forward to the recording and editing part, but I am looking forward to hopefully having something good at the end of it!

Best of luck! I'll definitely buy one!
Professional recording and editing will be quite some work I guess, but once you are done, you'll be rewarded for it!!
