Ideas on fingering for the end of the first half of Goldberg Var 3 (RH)
on: January 17, 2010, 04:23:45 AM
Hello, I was wondering what different fingerings you guys used for the last Treble Clef Measure of the first Half of Var. 3 ; specifically the first B (under the tied D)
Thanks!

Goldberg Variation #3
Reply #1 on: January 20, 2010, 02:48:55 AM
Coincidentally, I'm practicing this variation now myself and yes, the fingering in the RH in both 'halves' is tricky in certain spots. I've been using the following for that measure:
(1,5) for the d octave, then, 2,3,1 (on the G), 2, then 3 (on the B you mention), back to 1 (on the A), then (2,5 D&G), 1 (F#), (2,4 G &C#), 1, (2,5 F#&D).
The above has worked well for me. An alternative would be to use your thumb to play the first E after the octave and then your thumb again on the G. In either case, you're using your middle finger to play the B in question. Good luck!
