losing insperation
on: January 22, 2010, 01:08:33 AM
im a kid that admires music in any way or form but lately i lost my connection to the world of music. when i first started playing piano it was impossible to take me off of it. no matter if i was just playing random keys i always looked forward to seeing it the next day. i use to dream of notes being written across pages and pages and the keys going along with them but its been awhile since i've had one of those. every time i see my piano now i feel cold. its just not the same anymore. every time i see a music sheet i just feel another wait on my shoulders insteaded of a relief when i play.

so im posting just to no if theres anyone out there who felt like me andd did something about it. i just miss the feeling of playing on a cloud. anyone have advice for me? i need help from my fellow players.

Find something you like.

Or if you want, put music on the backburner or focus on it differently -- Just work on scales or music theory.  Something where you think differently than you were before.

Or just push through it.

I think as we journey through life, there will always be times when we don't feel inspired and as musicians, we have that tendency to experience that.  I think we can embrace the times when we are full of inspiration.  For instance, I do drawings in colored pencils, and for some reason, the other night I suddenly felt this creativity coming and I ended up drawing(from my imagination) as series of drawings so full of color and in a complete unique style.  I have more to draw in this new phase that I'm in.  And therefore, I don't know if I felt inspired, but it certainly didn't make my artwork as boring  in the process.

Whenever we play a piece we can ask ourselves, is it a daily mundane routine that we have to go through in order to learn a piece.  We can be patient with ourselves and when we relax and enjoy what we are learning in a piece, I think the inspiration does come more readily into our minds and hearts.   :)

Hi o0_music_0o

Well moving away from the piano, listen to some Beethoven symphonies (may I suggest 3, 5, & 9) - try to get a copy of the score of symphony no. 3 and study it with the music playing, study the life of Shostakovich - Volkov wrote some pretty amazing stuff about him, try to find some videos of Karajan or Bernstein conducting - even though you may never conduct and orchestra, the performance these guys put into music is sometimes electric and truly on another level but something to aspire to.

For me, life is music. Faith, hope, love and music. I translate to music all what I feel and live along my day. For example: few days ago, I "lost" one of my patients. She was a very old and sweet woman and I felt for her deeply. So, at home, latter, I played to her the prelude op 28 (Chopin)...
After this, cause death is so sad, I played the Ballade nr 2 (Chopin)... and after, to calm myself, I played Bach.
Life is music and music is life. If one is alive, one allways is able to get inspiration, do you see?
Best wishes
Rui

Lost your inspiration too?

Something like that  :P.  I might put it back someday, when the thread has sunk to the muddy bottom of the forum swamp (there's a lot of very interesting creatures down there).
