Earl Wild (1915-2010)
on: January 23, 2010, 07:45:34 PM
He passed away this morning, taking with him (I think it's not too much to say) an entire era of piano playing.

RIP

Best,

Sad news. He really was a character. When did he last play?

His brilliant recordings were responsible for igniting my love of Thalberg.

Great pianist.

Very sad news. He made a remarkable contribution to the paraphrase/transcription genre (both as pianist and composer), and his performances of forgotten composers such as Thalberg, Pabst and Herz are amongst my favourite recordings.

Ah, that "golden age" of piano playing? If so, is there really no-one else left? :(

Very sad indeed. I agree with Hinton's comments about him taking with him an entire era of piano playing.
