Does anyone know what are good piano exercises for a late intermediate/ early advanced student?  I've been using some exercise etudes from my teacher, but I've finished all of them.  I've heard of the Hanon exercise books and it got some good and bad reviews.  But what are some of the recommended books for exercises?

Gradus ad Parnassum Op. 44 by Clementi, or 51 Exercises WoO 6 by Brahms. The Brahms exercises are much shorter works, and can be repeated ad nauseam. They cover many of the techniques used in his piano music, and the romantic repertoire in general. The Clementi studies are much longer, like etudes, sometimes 5 pages long. You can look at the scores on IMSLP.

Whay do they say about the Hanon?  And of course, Gradus ad Parnnassum is fine for advanced levels.
