The best complete set, in my opinion, is the set conducted by Neeme Järvi with Gutiérrez playing 2 and 3 and Boris Berman playing 1, 4, and 5. Gutiérrez's 2nd is by far the best in every way, in my opinion. Prokofiev himself has a good recording of the 3rd also, despite the bad sound quality because of its age. Richter also recorded a good account of the 5th.

I don't like to say "greatest," or "best."
My favorite for the 2nd is Toradze, and for the 3rd is Argerich.

Having recently taken delivery of Horacio Gutierrez's recording of Prokofiev's piano concerto no.2, kindly recommended to me by several members of this forum, I can aver that his recording is truly superb, and is surely an unsurpassed performance. The performance of the third concerto on the disc is also extremely good.

There are many stunning performers of Prokofiev. Recently I listed to Jorge Bolet's 1973 recordings of 2nd & 3rd Piano concertos. Absolute magic!

Berman does a superb recording of the 4th Sonata. Richter my be the Champion of the 2nd Sonata, whereas Ivo Pogolerich does the best 6th Sonata for me. The Prolofiev pian roll of his Toccata is transcendental even though Horowitz's interpretation is 1st rate. But the performance "of all time" for me is Glenn Gould's interpretation of the 1st Movement of the 7th Sonata. As it one of my fave works, I have dozens of reference recordings and no one really gets close.
Currently rehearsing:

Chopin Ballades (all)
Rachmaninov prelude in Bb Op 23 No 2
Mozart A minor sonata K310
Prokofiev 2nd sonata
Bach WTCII no 6
Busoni tr Bach toccata in D minor

I love particularly this version of the 3rd concerto with Argerich:

Anyone know if this particular concert is available on cd or dvd?
That must be Mikhail Pletnev conducting, but I haven't found any cd/dvd with Argerich+Pletnev playing the 3rd concerto...

i like argerich playing the 3rd, but Gutierrez has the greatest renditions for his concertos
Learning:

Chopin Polonaise Op. 53
Brahms Op. 79 No. 2
Rachmaninoff Op. 16 No. 4 and 5

There's another guy called I think Hao chen Zhang playing PC 2. I think it's alright. I don't know much of Prokofiev's style.
