Some of you folks probably know me from Piano World. I'm glad I discovered this board; looks very nice.

Why hello! I've indeed seen you there. I hope your posts here are just as informative as those at PW.

Piano World requires your actual birthdate to post anything.  My insurance companies and 401k managers use my birthdate as a key identifier for password change; it is not information I am going to give away.    There are a lot more posters on Piano World, including some techs that will answer every question with the answer "you should hire a qualified piano technician".  I do my own piano work, considering that an excellent console now can be had for $150 it doesn't make sense at my income level to hire a technician anymore.  If I can rebuild engines, rear axles, automatic transmissions, car radios and stereo amplifiers, I think I should be coached through fixing my own piano without serving a 3 year apprenticeship.  The certified piano technicians have a different opinion.  I'll figure it out without their help.

While I didn't intend this thread to be a diatribe against PW, I will say that there is absolutely no reason why you have to give them your real birthdate. ;)
