Piano World requires your actual birthdate to post anything.  My insurance companies and 401k managers use my birthdate as a key identifier for password change; it is not information I am going to give away.    There are a lot more posters on Piano World, including some techs that will answer every question with the answer "you should hire a qualified piano technician".  I do my own piano work, considering that an excellent console now can be had for $150 it doesn't make sense at my income level to hire a technician anymore.  If I can rebuild engines, rear axles, automatic transmissions, car radios and stereo amplifiers, I think I should be coached through fixing my own piano without serving a 3 year apprenticeship.  The certified piano technicians have a different opinion.  I'll figure it out without their help.

While I didn't intend this thread to be a diatribe against PW, I will say that there is absolutely no reason why you have to give them your real birthdate. ;)
