First piano lesson was a real help
on: February 19, 2010, 11:02:55 AM
Hi folks,

I think some of you have been following my progress since I started to play piano again after a long period of inactivity. I have been unsure about how much I can teach myself and whether I need the help of a teacher.

I've had lots of really helpful replies from members of this forum and, to cut a long story short, recently decided to sign up for piano lessons from a local music teacher.

And, guess what? My first lesson the other night was soooooo good. Not because I played well. Hardly at all actually. But just sitting in with a teacher for half an hour gave him the opportunity to appraise exactly what potential I have, and gave me some really important feedback about what I have to do to start playing again.

Anyway, I think the partnership with my tutor is going to be a really fruitful one. To some extent I'll be starting at the beginning again and relearning scales and doing sight reading tests and so on. But, hopefully Chopin and Lizst will get a lookin too, with a bit of jazz thrown in for good measure.

Again I have to say that this report I downloaded from the internet was really useful. If it helps other in my position, you can find it at www.doyouneedpianolessons.com

And if there are any other people out there who are just returning to playing the piano after a gap of years, and you're really confused about where to start, let me know or others on this forum and we'll help if we can.

I'll keep posting my experiences on this forum over the coming weeks.

And good luck folks.

I'm glad things are going well with your tutor! It seems like a good fit.
