Help: audition pieces for 8 yr-old
on: February 19, 2010, 02:30:46 PM
Hello,

We're preparing audition for our daughter who is age 8. I teach her at home informally for about a year now and she yet to take any exams. But we think it can be a good experience for her to try on the auditions for RCM junior department, and junior Guildhall whether she makes it or not.  And she's keen on the idea as well.

We're thinking the two contrast pieces can be Bach's Prelude in C Major and Burgmuller's Arabesque.

What do you think?
Will Prelude be too long for audition?
And what other pieces you think can be good for audition?

Thank you in advance.

Bach wrote a number of preludes in C major.  It might be helpful to know which one you're referring to.
What passes you ain't for you.

Stevebob, I assume she is referring to the very famous prelude in C Major from the first book of the Well Tempered Clavier. If it is that prelude, then the Burgmuller would be an excellent contrasting piece because the Bach prelude is free-flowing and the Burgmuller is more stark and "staccato." Good luck to her!  :)

Thank you for your replies, stevebob and orangesodaking.

Yes, I was referring to first book of Well Tempered Clavier.

Hello, we made the videos of my daughter playing those two pieces:

They're not perfect and my daughter is still in need of more practice :)

Please provide some feedback in your convenience.
Thank you very much.
