Kind request - What is it the enclosed composition?
on: February 21, 2010, 04:31:43 PM
Dear Piano Forum Members,
Would you be so kind to give me the answer what is it the enclosed composition (mp3). In description of this composition is "Albumblatte by R.Schumann" .But certainly it isn't the Album Blatter op.124 neither the Bunte Blatter op.99.Therefore what is this ? This is my question.
With the best wishes
Jerzy Dziubiński
P.S.I am the pianist amateur and listener of piano art and I'm looking for the notes of this beautiful composition. My username of Piano street:anjur.

This is intriguing, as the clip is so characteristic of Schumann's style—and so overtly suggestive of "Abschied," the closing piece in
Waldszenen
Op. 82—that I wonder if it's meant to be a deliberate imitation. Could I ask what the origin of this mp3 was (i.e., where it was identified as
Albumblatt
by Robert Schumann)?
I entered the opening phrase of the melody in the
Musipedia Melody Search Engine
, but there were no exact matches. Of course, the database there isn't exhaustive. It's a shame there's no search engine (as far as I'm aware) that catalogs criteria like time signature and key signature; this
Albumblatt
is in compound time and A major, but knowing those details didn't help me locate it.

Good evening,
Thank you very much for your attention. There are two sources of the description of mp3:
1.Description this composition as the Albumblatte by R.Schumann on the CD NIREO 007 "Live in Fort Lauderdale" , Francesco Libetta - piano.
2.Chopin's Festival, Duszniki,Poland 2006 - program of Francesco Libetta performance (the same program as on the mentioned above CD)

Well, that is a mystery.
I explored the Libetta's website some, and found a form for contacting him through the Nireo label:
https://www.libetta.it/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=10&lang=en
I would give it a try. If you get a response, please let us know what you find out!
By the way, a heretofore unknown manuscript by Schumann was found just a few years ago titled
Ahnung
; it has also been referred to with the generic name
Albumblatt
. Luiza Borac has recorded this short piece, and Wiener Urtext has published it. Unfortunately, this isn't the composition that Libetta performs on the Nireo CD:

Wow...actually I find this piece very similar to the last movement of the op. 17 Fantasy...but anyway, what a gorgeous Schumann piece...I must find out some...

It sounds like a variation of the Albumblatt No. 1 from Bunte Blätter op. 99. Clara Schumann has written her Variations op. 20 on this theme (But this one is not in there). And I think Brahms used it too, somewhere.

Yep, the op. 9.
I'm so curious about this one right now...I wonder if it could've been a transcription of one of his lieders?
