Any Thrice fans?
on: February 23, 2010, 10:18:50 AM
I was thinking of doing a piano tutorial of "For Miles" by Thrice, since all of the ones on YouTube are absolute garbage, done by people with no ear whatsoever  ;)

I was wondering what kind of response it would garner here...

In case you don't know, here is the song:

No.  Just, no.
If this work is so threatening, it is not because it's simply strange, but competent, rigorously argued and carrying conviction.

Thrice is damn good.  Elitists won't like them, but they have much better music than a lot of alt/punk/rock bands today.  It's nothing like classical music, but I have a lot of respect for them because they haven't gone totally mainstream and completely ruined everything that is unique to them.

The piano in for miles is pretty easy haha  ;) and I doubt you will get any good comments from users.  Post it on youtube for a community of people who listen to the music, and you will gets loads of feedback.

Alot of their songs (early and new) are really experimental, and some of the harmonies they get are really cool.  Their drummer is also really good (something many bands today just don't have); I'd say they're a solid band, but again, you will probably get booed from people on the forum for posting a video, just because of the way the people are   :-\

From what I've seen of the forum, I'd think you probably won't have much luck here.
But I love Thrice. Digital Sea or The Earth Will Shake have to be my favorites.
I'm not sure why people have an opposition to finding good music in modern songs. There is a lot of good music to be found in more modern compositions.
If you do end up posting that on youtube, I'd like to see it.

Modern songs?  Like Pierrot Lunaire?
