James Cameron is still one of the best directors in Hollywood. Although Avatar did not grab such distinction in Oscar, it is one of the most remarkable film of the year.

I was just dispappointed that it did not win the "Best Picture" and Best Director

It was an entertaining movie... anything in 3D is cool to watch (Alice in Wonderland was cool too!)

Even getting nominated for an award is an accomplishment... it did make a shitload of money, so there are still a lot of people who do like it ;)

I search and research and it's true: no science fiction film has won at Best Picture (at least there are fantasy adventure films which have done it).

However, I cannot think in Avatar as an original idea. Have you seen Dance with Wolves or the Last Samurai?, or do you know about Pocahontas?

I think that the reason that the film was there at the nominations was because of two things:

1. The film broke box office records, one of the highest grossing films, in other words, it was a commercial success (due to too much advertisement and propaganda).

2. The special effects (which of course, utterly won at the Academy Awards).

However, the two points mentioned before don't mean that the film has an original or great plot.

In my point of view, I would have prefered that Up would have won as the Best Picture.  Of course, I haven't seen The Hurt Locker, but it was a great movie and because it is only an animated film doesn't mean that it doesn't deserved the award (What made me have tears of joy was that not only won for Best Animated Picture, it also won as the Best Original Music Score!!!!).

The Best Actor award should have gone to James Cameron for pretending he was pleased when his ex-wife got the Best Director and Best Film award, not only at the Oscars but at the BAFTAs as well.

Who cares if he won any award or not. The movie still grossed out more than a billion dollars.

Ah, yes.  I had forgotten that train of thought, along with the fact that Lady Gaga > Schoenberg.

Obviously not, if Avatar got nominated.

Hahaha, but I'm sure the point is that, at the very least the bean-counters behind Avatar (and Lady Gaga!) won't care if it comes out gold or trash because it makes heaps of money...

Do people.... take oscars seriously then?

Haha, not that I matter, but frankly I could not care less, literally. What a fuss over a non-event about something unimportant.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
