Etude for audition--any suggestions?
on: July 09, 2004, 09:35:05 AM
Hi all
I have a student who needs an etude for an audition. She is a late intermediate student and will be performing the Handel g minor Passacaglia and the Vandall f minor Toccata.
I'm looking for an impressive etude that is pianistically accessible for her at this intermediate level. I have considered the Nakada Etude Allegro and the Liszt d minor Etude Op.1. I find them both to be lacking in different ways.
Do any of you have suggestions for appropriate etudes--Romantic or Contemporary?
Many thanks!

What about Heller and Burgmuller (op. 104 and Op. 109)?

Hi Bernhard
Thanks for the reply! I do appreciate it.
Yes I have considered them. I was hoping to find something with a little more cachet, i.e. more of a concert piece, than the standard etude...rather like the Liszt d minor.
If the Liszt were just a bit more impressive, it would be the first choice.
Does that help?

How about one of the simpler Ligeti Etudes. The fact that she should know about them is already impressive enough. Plus, looking at the sheet music is really quite something

Hi DarkWind
You must be psychic! I was just looking at one of the Ligeti Etudes (it starts with half note G's in the right hand)! I like the idea and I will try to see them all this weekend.
Thanks for your help!
