Rachmaninoff, op. 32 no. 12
on: April 05, 2010, 01:59:33 PM
Hey guys,

An old piece that I took up again recently - it's not exactly perfectly polished yet, but I'm pretty satisfied with it; I'm no concert pianist. Any comments, positive or negative, is much appreciated.

At the loudest points, the mic's a bit scratchy, but otherwise, the sound quality isn't too bad.

I listened and I really enjoyed it. I think you did a great job on this piece. I am no concert pianist either but to me this was excellent.

Yeah, you went absolutely nuts whenever you see "poco rit", "rit", and "meno mosso" - these are not licenses to change the pulse of the music and halt it to a stand still! (Once is no problem provided it is tasteful, but definitely not the way you are doing it here!)

So the meter is 12/8, and grouped to 4 beats per bar. Reconsider the way the music flows in the bars that are marked slower, because the way you are doing it sounds like there are 12 beats in each of those bars. Remember, the melody (and thus the accompaniment and the music) still flows at 4 beats per bar!

Also be sure that those melodic notes in the LH right after the climax are slurred - sounded a little sloppy here. Otherwise good work! I in particular love the sound and voicing of the bass melody in the recap of the main theme after the climax. Now get the flow of the music right!

You should really work on less mistakes and less rubato first.
Ofcourse it is fine to slow down abit with the right hand for melody's sake, but now you're overdoing it since it doesnt sound fluently anymore.
Work on that and post again, keep on the good work ;)
