[VIDEO] Brahms 7 Fantasies Op. 116

I'm still working on the video for much of the recital but I thought I'd share what I have uploaded so far.  Let me know what you think

From my DMA recital Jan 24th, 2010:

Brahms - Fantasies Op. 116

I. Capriccio: Presto energico

II. Intermezzo: Andante

III. Capriccio: Allegro passionato

IV. Intermezzo: Adagio

V. Intermezzo: Andante con grazia ed intimisso sentimento

VI. Intermezzo: Andantino teneramente

VII. Capriccio: Allegro agitato

I didn't get a chance to listen to all of them yet, but so far I'm quite impressed!  Very nicely done, and congratulations on your degree.

Hi Josh,

Bravo!  I listened to the whole set and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I've only played No. 6, but am well familiar with them all.  This was a commanding and artistic performance in my opinion.  You bring out the fire, drama and poetry of Brahms and achieve his burnished sound wonderfully. Thanks for sharing your recital with us.

Congratulations too on achieving the DMA!

[I posted a little more detailed comment than this, but I hit the wrong button, so...><]

No. 2: Would be even nicer if you savour the bass in the first 4 bars of the A major section I think.
No. 4: Would be more gorgeous if you don't push the middle section (marked una corda) forward. I like it when each notes just fall into place naturally, letting the sound just glitter.

This is without doubt a very good rendition of the Brahms, with such compelling passion and energy. Bravo. And this is not necessarily your last DMA recital is it? Looking forward to hearing more in any case!

No, this is just my first DMA recital.  I still have 2 more to do.

@Prongated thanks for the tips.  I agree on both counts and was thinking the same thing upon review of this recording.  The Bosendorfer has a powerful bass and my concern during the recital was of overdoing it

I should have another set up today sometime..

Ripening!  Josh, since last I heard you, a new pianist has emerged.  Your playing has risen to another level.  It is evident that you have matured.  In the Mendelssohn Fantasy, I was very much engaged.  I think the difference between now and before is that, like a poet, your words are carrying more weight, and I am hanging on them.

There is more to be said in where you've improved, but every area seems to have risen to the next power.  It's exciting to see you progress.  I look forward to hearing the Schumann Sonata!

Wow I am completely flattered!  Thanks for your glowing remarks! 

The Mendelssohn Fantasy is something I tried in highschool with limited success and decided to bring it back now that I have more tools pianistically than I had then.
