Topic: Chopin Waltz posth Nº 20 "Melancolique" is REALLY a Chopin waltz?  (Read 2493 times)

Hi everyone!
I am playing Chopin Waltz posth Nº 20 "Melancolique" in F sharp minor, it is a beautiful piece but I heard that it is not sure it was written by Chopin.
Do anyone know if this waltz was really written by Chopin? is there any research or historical investigation or prove of its authenticity? My teacher thinks it wasnt written by Chopin and I am not sure.
I will apreciate your comments.

Your teacher is most likely correct.  In listings in which it is included, the Valse mélancolique in F♯ minor is generally labeled "spurious."  (The relevant definition of spurious is "not genuine, authentic, or true; not from the claimed, pretended, or proper source; counterfeit.")
