Balancing my Fingers?
on: April 17, 2010, 05:11:31 AM
Hello! First of all, I would like to say that I am new to this website and It looks pretty cool so far. Anyways, my name is Simon, and I've been playing piano since I was 6 years old. I (of course) didn't like it at first, but I grew to love it.
Anyways, my piano teacher states that I force too much power into my thumb and my index finger, and that I need to 'balance' them. The piece I'm having trouble with is Aufschwung by Schuman. I'm particularly good at Hanon exercises that specialize in strengthening my other fingers, but do any of you experienced people have any tips? Thank you.

The 'balance' referred to is done by the ears not the fingers. Many teachers don't approach the problem that way though, instead asking you to lighten up your finger/thumb stroke when all they need do is point out where notes are sticking out in your texture - it helps if they demonstrate adding some exaggeration.
Hey, I'm pretty new here too and also think it's cool! (cool
er
than some elsewhere's anyhow).
