Sibelius

I've said it before, I'll say it again and I'll continue sayng it until more people take notice. Sibelius' piano music is wonderful! Glenn Gould could certainly see the merits of it He wrote much more piano music than a lot of people think and it's continued neglect is nothing short of criminal in my opinion. It's long past time we had some of his scores on this site.

One of my favorite orchestral composers (I am in love with the Violin Concerto in D minor - top piece) -- I have just discovered his piano pieces.

I tend to listen to a new piece many times over before I can make up my mind, and so far the few I have heard from Opus 24 I definitely enjoy. I don't know that I would venture to learn them however, maybe one day when I am a better player.

I did come across this interesting quote from Anthony Burton regarding his piano writing in general:

"...they are the equivalent of the drawings of a great painter, enhancing appreciation of the masterworks but also fascinating in their own right."

Yes the pieces of Op 24 are great. The Op 114 are also delightful, the last set of pieces he wrote for the piano I believe. The Sonata is a wonderful piece, the first movement sounds as if the piano is imitating sleigh bells.
