Sixth, enlarge hand
on: April 25, 2010, 12:12:40 AM
Hi everybody, I've not a big hand but my span is sufficent. My difficulty is about sixth with 41 52 (for example the first and expecially second variation of Brahms-Paganini, a little bit in the Chopin etude in sixth). Can somebody suggest me a solution for enlarge without injuries? Ciao

Find what's comfortable and do that each day.  And stretch it a bit on the keyboard.  I've done that.

If you don't use it, you lose it.  I found that with octaves.  The material in the hand 'solidifies' if you don't keep using it that way.

Either two notes or chords for that.

I know what you mean... I'm playing the Brahms-Paganini... For me, It would be just to relax the hand as much as you can and don't let your fingers do all the work, allow the hand to move slightly to take you between the sixth patterns.

Start slow and gradually make your way towards the faster tempo - it's what I'm doing.
