How much time do you take to finish learning a piece?

Hi Faa2010

For me, it depends on how difficult the piece is and the different techniques required to play that piece. I am not happy even to go to the next page of any piece until I have learnt ninety percent from memory.

Fortunately for me, because I am not constrained to any music school or exams (except for my weekly lesson), I do not think in terms of time when learning or finishing a piece, rather, when I am "satisfied" that I can no longer draw anything else out of the music. But I am never satisfied that I have finished any piece.

All the Best,

Энтони.

Always exactly 1½ month! It doesn't matter if it's Hammarklavier or a 30 sec long czerny etude! ...

Depends on the piece, of course.  I learned a song from New Moon for my daughter in 10 minutes.  I'm still polishing some Mozart sonatas I've been learning for months.   Reminds me, I should revisit that Haydn piece and work out a passage.
Currently learning:
Chopin Prelude Op. 28, no. 15
Schubert Sonata in A Major, D.959: Allegretto

What's this New Moon song?... is that the Dvorak piece?

LOL - no.  It's "The Meadow" from the Twilight New Moon soundtrack.  Very simple piece, which is why it took 10 minutes for me to learn.

Depends on the piece but about 2 weeks to play from memory and then another week and a half to perfect it.  :) :)

it depends on the piece. I have to learn to difficult pieces from memory per semester of school, These pieces I usually start at the beginning of the semester and work on them until the performance. I also learn pieces that are a little easier during the semester, these pieces take less time, usually about a month or so. If the song is easy it might only take a week or so but if it is a difficult piece that you are learning for performance it will take musch longer.
