Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges. Yamaha YUA
on: May 10, 2010, 08:31:50 PM
Does anybody know this model of Yamaha? Is this piano(1980 YUA, looks like in pretty good condition) worth buying for $4000? Or is there any potential issues with this model?

Thanks a lot,

W

I assume you are looking at buying this from a piano dealer of some sort?

Firstly, what $ currency? Secondly, what is the serial number? I wouldn't trust year quotes from piano dealers unless the dealer is extremely reputable and provides services/pianos to conservatories and/or some of the most prestigious concert halls in town. Basically, trust them as much as you trust used car dealers. You can bargain quite hard especially if you are armed with the right information! I'd wager you can at least get delivery and first tuning included at that price - but again, I need to know the answer to those 2 questions first!

Otherwise I think the YUA is (rather, was) one of the very best upright pianos Yamaha makes. The only "problem" is, I think most of these pianos are pretty much grey imports. More info regarding this is easily googled and you can form your own opinion in this regard.

Yes, I am buying from a dealer. The price is in US dollar, the serial number I checked is right. However, I have a little bit doubt about this particular model, since when I googled this model, there is one post saying it's one of Yamaha's infamous models.
The price does include the delivery and free tuning too.
Thanks for the reply!
