The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more

gift for my piano teacher -??
on: May 16, 2010, 10:13:31 PM
hi,

I need recommendations:

What to give a discouraged down-in-the-dumps piano teacher??

Teacher is:

-older lady
-soft spoken, gentle , steady, quiet,
- sensitive.

my limitations:

-I need to do this within a week, but
-I have no money

any ideas ?!?

I am good at making stuff by hand so ideas for cards or crafts are good. (and don't require $$ because I already have a lot of supplies.)

I thought about an oragami piano, but maybe that is too cheapo? I really don't know.

All input appreciated!

Thanks,

~kkb

It's fine if you use your talent as origami, or play a piece she may like to hear and you know.  Handcraft is great on my point of view because you do it with your own hands and you take your time in doing it.

As long as you remind yourself on congratulating her, everything would be fine.

The first Christmas I was with my teacher I gave him a gift certificate to our fantastic wine store.  He's in his late 50's.  This past year, I burned the entire Mitsuko Uchida Mozart Sonata box set on CDs for him.   He was thrilled with that!   Then I gave him a hand-me-down iPod and he thinks I'm the coolest thing since melted brie and crackers.
Currently learning:
Chopin Prelude Op. 28, no. 15
Schubert Sonata in A Major, D.959: Allegretto

I think your piano oragimi is great -

Even if you had the money to be extreme - it would be awkward..
If you're not sure about your gift - I appreciate it when I get a small gift
card to a coffee shop.

Another idea that would make her day - I think - is to get someone to take a picture
 of the two of you
