French Pianism Genealogy Tree May 17 Update
on: May 17, 2010, 12:46:21 PM
Hi,

Another update with corrections suggested on this forum:

https://www.concertpianist.com.au/html/frenchtree.html

1. In the tree, arrows point from the teacher to the students. 2. If teacher had many famous students, they are placed below the teacher.
3.The people in red, bold font are one of the main figures of the branch.
4.the tree goes in the circa chronological order.
5. Colors of arrows have no meaning at all, they are just different to facilitate the clarity of the graph.
6. Subjects in blue font are foreign influences (not French)
Last thing,

The letter or words after brackets indicate sources of data.
I will compile that later but
g = grove encyclopedia
o = oxford encyclopedia etc
pianowoman is an internet source of information about female pianists.

Thanks everybody!
Enjoy!

Evelyn Crochet, a very fine french pianist, still alive and active, is missing from the list.
Or maybe I just can't see it...

Some years ago i discouvered a french pianist who studied with Pierre Sancan. His name is Olivier Cazal. I have never heard anybody talking about him since. But i think he is worth being mentioned in your tree.

I really love his energie:
(last part of prok 3 - probably the most orgasmig i've heard so far  :o )
(a pretty cool piece by Sancan  8) )
(~2 mins of the Liszt sonata)

I would love to hear the complete performances of those prok and liszt...  :'(

I would also be really interested what you all think about him and if anybody knows him already.

Piano Street Magazine:
Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
