Setting Up My Studio - Where to get students?
on: May 25, 2010, 03:24:00 AM
Hi all,
I just graduated from Cedarville University as a keyboard pedagogy major! I love teaching piano, but I am getting married in July and I really need to be able to support my wife to be. We also have a lot of school debt.
I'm gearing up to start marketing to the area we are moving to, however I just want to make sure I'm going the right way about this.
I happen to be a web designer in my spare time, so I have a website at
https://breathepiano.com
, and I'm getting business cards and brochures printed. Beyond this, what would you recommend? I want to become Nationally certified, however the review process takes 8 weeks and by then I really need a full studio.
Oh, I also have a baby grand young chang, it's really nice smile
Any thoughts? I'm praying this all works out!

Good luck! I see no replies so you would do us all a service by letting us know how you went about getting your studio started.
Don't we all wish potential piano students had a blinking light on their heads?

lol yes that would be helpful!
So far, I have taken an ad out at google adwords. I've taken an ad out in the homeschool community newsletter, I'm hoping that drives a lot of traffic. I made flyers and hung them up on community boards. It's only been a few days, but nothing's happened yet.
There is a YMCA a Marshal Music and a huge music studio nearby, so I'm going there and giving them my resume. Keyboard World also said they would take a resume. So some starts.
in the meantime I'm just working on my website. I could really use a critique of it,
www.BreathePiano.com
. What do you guys think?

That's a good site. At the moment, I wouldn't change anything. However, I'm also sure that you are your own worst critic.
I've always thought that MI would be a good place for music. The long cold winters lend themselves to staying in, practicing and going to concerts.
If your are ever over in Holland stop by the Holland Historical Trust Museum and get an idea about the Dutch contribution to MI culture. My family had a little something to do with the founding of that City.
I'd be living there now except that I can't stand the weather..

Perhaps a Facebook/Myspace business page would help spread information. Invite your friends, then let your friends invite other people in your area. You could gain local publicity.
Any way, good luck.
