What the.....
on: May 26, 2010, 07:07:44 PM
OK, I suggested to Hawkranger in another thread that the iPod applications for sight reading were a good way to learn and test yourself.  So I got myself one just to put my money where my mouth is.   I just came across a notation I've NEVER seen before!!!!  9 years of piano lessons and I have no idea what it is!    It's showing a G with a 15ma over it, like the familiar 8va.   I thought maybe I add 15 notes?  But that just seems an awfully dumb way to get you to play an G 2 octaves higher.

Chopin Prelude Op. 28, no. 15
Schubert Sonata in A Major, D.959: Allegretto

2 Octaves higher, right, that's all :) If you count you will see it's correct.

Yeah, once I sat back and thought about it a bit and got over the initial shock of seeing something I've never seen before, it made logical sense.    And now I'm thinking.... I need to start playing pieces that get me higher up on my keys!
