Interesting songs for a beginner?
on: May 31, 2010, 03:28:49 PM
Hello. I'm 18 and learning piano. (Well, I'm using a keyboard. But it has pressure sensitive keys like a piano.) I'm using online resources and books to teach myself how to read and play. (Can't afford piano lessons at the moment.)

I have learnt simple songs (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for example) and parts (arranged for beginners) of longer songs. (Je Te Veux for example). I have a video of me playing part of "Paradise Lost" if it helps determine my skill level. (Ignore the fingering on the left hand, I've improved since April.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cPzUQD3ars

I'm tired of learning Christmas Songs/Nursery songs, so I'm wondering if there are beginner pieces or arrangements which sound interesting. Links would be helpful.

Note: Unfortunately my keyboard has only 61 keys, so I'd like a piano piece to fit within that range. Also, each hand can only stretch up to 8 keys.

Thank you for stopping by! Tips would be nice too. :D

Try 'arabesque' by Burgmuller.  Easy and fun to play.  People hear it and think you are such a great pianist.

I have only played the piano for 2 years. I just started my freshmen year of high school and these are the piano songs I have learned...

Arabesque by Burgmuller
Russian Folk Song by Beethoven
Canon in D by Pachelbel (grade 2 here at Pianostreet)
Moonlight Sonata 1st Mov. by Beethoven
Rondo Alla Turca (Turkish March) by Mozart (if your really dedicated)
Fur Elise by Beethoven (if your really dedicated)
Progress by Burgmuller
Ballade by Burgmuller
and some random scores from video games such as: Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy.
Hope this reply helps  :)
Currently learning:
Aram Khachaturian - Toccata
Joplin - The Entertainer
Beethoven - Sonata Op. 49 No. 2
Debussy - Reverie

Oh, also VERY IMPORTANT :o :o :o

DO NOT ALWAYS GO BY THE GRADING SCALE LISTED ON Pianostreet
because to one person a grade 4 for instance, might be easier for me but not for someone else
so the system may vary but all the songs i have listed aren't above a grade 4. here on Pianostreet they might say otherwise

Hope this also helped  ;D ;D ;D

Menuet in G minor from the "Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach".
Menuet G dur BWV Anh 114 by Johann Sebastian Bach.
German Dance WoO8 No.1 in C major by L.van Beethoven
Dolly's Dreaming and Awakening by T. Oesten

Good luck!  :)
