Piano as a Second Instrument
on: June 15, 2010, 11:57:21 PM
Hello, new here.

I'm a mallets player (xylo, vibes, marimba, etc.) with a strong music theory background (AP Music Theory). However, I have been fooling around with the piano recently, and I've decided that it's an instrument I really want to learn. However, I lack the resources (other than a piano, of course). Would you guys be able to direct me to piano technique resources, as well as exercises, songs, and other sorts of etudes, ideally arranged in a sort of "track" of increasing difficulty? If possible, free online music and resources would be best. (I'm cheap. Plus, I've found it hard to locate good material for "PSI" people.)

Thanks so very muchly,
--Chiro

My teacher used to work with a lot of damaged percussionists.  There's some clips of her working here:https:/www.youtube.com/isstip Best to get a good start.

Hmmm, I'll look at that when I have some time.

Any other technique website? Also, I've been practicing Gymnopedies 1; could anyone recommend any pieces that are good, bu easier than that? I need something to work up towards.

I'd check out JC Bach, also Sammartini his teacher - hard to get though.

Eh, not really my musical taste. If I don't like it, there's no incentive to play it.

I guess right now I'm looking more for online resources about technique---any suggestions?

For technique just pick whatever piece of msuic you REALLY want to play with no incentive for difficulty. Whatever technique is in the piece will have to be gained if you are to play it. I use new pieces as my scales and etudes because if I don't have the technique to play it, I will after the piece is learned.
