Pre university musicianship books
on: June 16, 2010, 08:52:39 AM
Has anyone used any musicianship texts designed for pre-university students? Introductory musicianship, or material that prepares the student for university entrance or a diploma such as ARCT.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

I'm not sure what specific skills you are looking to teach.
I've used these books myself and with students:

- gave this to a fellow teacher recently who found it very useful.
They might be a bit basic for your needs. Can you be any more specific?

I guess my original post was a bit vague. The students would be taking private instrument lessons (many of them in the RCM system). A majority of them would be piano, but also some violin and guitar. I am designing a course that would improve their musicianship skills and would compliment their private instrument study.
Possible topics:
rhythm
polyrhythm
tuplets
rhythm clapback
melodic playback
melodic and rhythmic dictation
identification of intervals
singing intervals
identification of chords
identification of scales and modes
identification of cadences and chord progressions
sight reading
sight singing
singing of simple 2 part melodies
singing of simple 4 part chorale style compositions
improvisation / composition of short melodies
scales and chords at the keyboard
