Shchedrin - Piano Concerto no.1
on: June 16, 2010, 04:37:50 PM
Hello everybody,

I'm planning to study Shchedrin's First Piano Concerto, but I'm having a difficult time tracking down a source for the score (except "pianofiles", but there's a trade policy there, so I don't know about my chances there). A two pianos score is obviously what I would need, but the full score would also be truly wonderful.

Thanks in advance.

Great choice! Great piece! Great composer!

Sikorski is the edition to go, i think. They have plenty of sheet music by Shchedrin (and also his first concerto)

Have fun with this piece!

Hmm. I see on their website (sikorski.de) that the First is indeed in their repertoire (but ordering it for a precise performance isn't something I can vouch for just yet  ;D), while they would only have the Fourth for sale.

Thanks anyway!

On the website of Mr Shchedrin it also says that the editor is sikorski.

As i guess that they have the exclusive right to this work (and you won't find it anywhere else) you can do the following:
Call them (Sikorski) and ask them about the concerto, tell them that you would like to study it.
But as you can't buy this score (because they don't sell it) ask them, if they can make you a copy of it. Generally they should agree and tell you the price. I guess it's between 50 and 100 € (as they are situated in europe). Then you wait until they send you the sheet music.

I know that sikorski does this kind of things, as i'm just sitting infront of one of those copies (but no Shchedrin btw)  ;D
Those copies look a little bit like printed sheets of medium quality scanned scores  ::), but hey, they will be YOUR medium quality copies!

Just be kind and polite  ;)

Don't give up. I'm sure this concerto is worth it!
