OK, this is NOT cool!
on: June 18, 2010, 01:14:46 AM
I haven't felt like putting much effort into the piano for over a week. I guess my blah mood with it started right about the time I took a good chunk off my thumb with a corn zipper. Hurt too much to practice. And then my piano keys were sticking because of the humidity. Now I sit down and try to start on the next section of my Schubert sonata and just go "I don't feel like this...."
Should I try to force myself, or just do something I know for a little while to keep my skills up and then wait for the urge to learn to come back? I think the same thing happened to me right after summer break from lessons started last year. Maybe it's not having the threat of going to a lesson unprepared that's making me be so undedicated these days.

Maybe work on the music in a different way. Break it down differently.
Work on something else in music.
Or just run through scales, etc. to keep your technique up.

It can keep your mind and fingers in shape by running through scales and chords. Dry, yes, but it can be easier/mindless in that you don't have to put a lot of planning into what to practice next.

Keyboard - nice on the violin! That takes WAY more patience than I have, but good onya!
OK, Bob... I see your point. The sticky keys and off tune from the humidity won't bother me as much doing scales either.

Or play mainly repertoire pieces for a while. Or some easier stuff, just for fun.

You know what's
really
fun on the violin? Double stopping. You get to tune your own 3rds, 4ths, etc yourself! No tuner (with their damned temperaments) need apply.

If i'm listening to classical music I really like, i immediatly want to jump behind the piano and try to play just as beautifull. Or maybe you are playing a piece that is really difficult for you. Its getting borring if you have to practice some bars over and over again. Try to find some new piece that is not really difficult. For me it helps!!
