Lutoslawski's Paganini Variations for 2 pianos
on: June 18, 2010, 11:37:29 AM
My buddy, Adi Neuhaus, and I played this piece at a competition we didn't really intend to do (I have never competed before). But there is this competition run by the Israel Ministry of Education for musicians of every type - no categories - pianistis, violinists, singers - all competing for the same prize. I was there accompanying a clarinetist, and Adi was accomapnying a violinist. This is a 3 stage competition, and both the clarinetist and violinist were dropped at the semi-finals. So after that, I asked one of the judges, mostly a joke, if they wanted to hear Adi and I do a piano duet (we have been practicing this Lutoslawski on our own), and he said, go ahead. Two minutes later we were in the finals (they didn't let us finish), and last week the performance in this Youtube video won first prize. Actually, in a few places we are not entirely together, and there are a few wrong notes, but then there are so many notes altogether that not many people can hear them. And we haven't practiced all that long... Let me know what you think.
