Dr Who
on: June 21, 2010, 04:53:48 AM
Because I know there are UK people on this board...surely at least one of them watches it.

Who else watches Dr Who? Predictions for the finale? Cries of "Please don't spoil it!" from the Americans and Aussies?

I no longer watch it.

I don't like the new Doctor and that absurd Scottish stick insect makes it even worse.

I don't like anything of the Dr's made in the last couple of years and cannot bear to watch what is on at the moment.

I really only ever liked the series with Jon Pertwee... the Dalek cardboard cut-outs seem more believable than what is being screened today.

Agreed Sir.

I was brought up on John Pertwee and Tom Baker and I don't think the modern version come anywhere close.

Me tooooooooooooo, thank heavens somebody on my level (more on that later * ). I was just about out of nappies when I first knew about Dr Who, so my era also began with Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. My older brothers used to watch the ones made in the 60's so either I wasn't around yet or when I was, I wasn't allowed to watch it until about 1974 anyway. I feel that the modern versions are lame. It's called progress I guess, but I was disappointed with the new versions.

* I suppose I was guilty of this at some stage, but I was chatting to my nephew (who is 12) at a family gathering some time ago about Dr Who and he was under the impression that the series currently being shown here in Australia was the first of its kind. Shaking my head in disgust and thinking what your parents haven't taught you, I quickly advised that he check out Dr Who on youtube dating 1989 and before. But in the meantime, I was thinking how somebody born into this current age of technology might react to these older shows when viewed. However, I was astonished at the result... a new old Dr Who convert.

My good deed done.

Энтони.

My first doctor, strictly speaking, was Eccleston. But I saw two episodes of him, and then sort of forgot to watch it. My first actual Doctor was Tennant.

I've never seen the classic Who...I will have to find them and watch them.

I guess I like the new series - especially the current season - because of the writing, and the nuttiness of Matt Smith. Moffat's a great writer, and he writes really interesting and intriguing episodes.
