Stating point
on: June 21, 2010, 11:10:54 PM
I played for about 8 months in my late teens, and now I'm 28 and have picked up piano again. I know the basic chords, c,d,e,f,g,a,b and I can read basic notation. I do not have a teacher, so I wondered what I should be learning. I really haven't put it together to the point that I can just play and improvise. I simply sit and play from a beginner/intermediate "learn to play piano" book.
I guess I was hoping someone could suggested what I should be concentrating on. I'm serious about learning the piano and have always wished I could play.

Maybe finish up method book stuff and then start getting into basic pieces -- Bach inventions, Clementi sonatinas, etc.

A teacher would really help, even if it's not the typical weekly meeting.  I've heard of twice or once a month too.

Although you might want to find a jazz piano teacher.  I sense some of that in your post.
