Mozart kv 284
on: June 22, 2010, 09:21:36 AM
This is probably my favourite sonata by Mozart, and it's my first attempt to play it well.
I've been playing it for like, a bit more than 1 weeks.
So here's the first recording

I also really love this sonata!
Your playing is very good, but it leaves me a bit breathless. Make sure not to rush. To me it's already evident in the first measures, especially the bass quarters in octaves should be really stable, like pillars! But also, try not to emphasize them all equally, but make a difference between strong and weak counts.
What gives me the impression of hastiness isn't actually the overall tempo, which I actually like! But I miss the breathing, the phrasing. It sounds like you desperately try to fulfill a certain metronome mark or so. Sometimes it sounds like you wish to escape your own strictness with a little rubato.
Also I suggest to work on the dynamics and on the contrasts, for instance between first and second subject.
It might help to imagine a symphony orchestra. This movement is very symphonic!

Thank you for your reply
yes, I agree about the phrasing. Though, since I only been playing it for a short time, I've been trying to make it as clear as possible (even though I fail sometimes).
But I'll think about that
Mozart is probably one of my biggest weaknesses, so I really appreciate your comment
