what did you have the hardest time learning?
on: June 30, 2010, 04:03:28 PM
Regardless if you are a beginner or not we have all had some obstacles in learning to play the piano. What did you find was your difficulty in learning?

I am a beginner and my issue is Staccato and I am confused when I see something like Mozart"s Allegro in F or piano sonata no 6 in D. What does that mean? Should I know this at my level?

I have a hard time mastering the pedal....its always sounds like too much or too little.  But I'm getting better, just not as fast as I want to lol

Everyone suffers different things, so don't worry about it. Since you know what you're not so good at, you know what to work on.

My biggest  problem was to not make plenty of mistakes. I could play a piece, and get minor black outs 4 or 5 times. And pedal.. Oh, I've had maaany problems!

You just have to find your flaws, and work on them. Suddenly there aren't there any more :)

Staccato means "detached", not smooth or connected, a gap in sound between notes.  It can also be indicated by dots above/below note heads.

Your level is whatever you need to learn when you need to learn it.

Oh I know that everyone at one point or another has had stumbling blocks. It's good to know I am not alone on that:)

Playing 2 against 3 rhythm for Debussy's Arabesque. That kicked my butt D: But now I am comfortable with it
- Intermediate student here!
Pieces that I'm currently studying (in order of priority):
1. Debussy - Arabesque no. 1
2. Mozart - 12 Variations
3. Debussy - Clair de Lune
4. Beethoven - Moonlight
