Piano rep "must-haves"
on: July 10, 2010, 10:32:40 PM
So... I'm not sure if this kind of thread has been done before but... I figure it's about time I expand my music library because it looks rather empty(other than the books I borrow from the university library I suppose). So what I want to know is what do you people think are the top 10 books(or as much as you want, I guess)  you should have in your music library, ie what books are important enough for you to actually need to own it? Or, what are some of the books in your library you feel you can't live without?

I'll start
Bach WTC bk 1 and 2
Beethoven 32 piano sonatas
Chopin complete etudes

Okay it's only 5 but meh I'll be damned if I can survive without these 5.
So, what do you guys think?

I don't think it's vital to have all the Beethoven sonatas or Chopin etudes, Horowitz only recorded a few of the Beethoven sonatas and nowadays most young pianists won't record complete Chopin Etudes or Beethoven Sonatas or the WTC.

Let's see, a must-have would be at least 1 concerto out of Tchaikovsky's 1st, Rach 2 and Rach 3.

wait, you mean as books? Never mind, my bad. Yes those books are vital to have in a pianist's library

Fur Elise and Fantaisie-Impromptu.

On a serious note, traditionally speaking, a 'serious' pianist would eventually have to learn ALL of Beethoven's sonatas and Chopets.
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata
