What is the advice you gave that inspired your student to practice?
on: July 12, 2010, 01:03:52 AM
All of us have experienced students who we had to consitantly remind to practice. I am just curious about what did you say to a student who is not practicing. Of course practice has more to do with an internal motivation to become good or succeed and sometimes external pressures from parents. However what did you say that helped spur the intrinsic motivation.
For me I usually try to communicate that they should practice for nobody eles but themselves to gain a new way of expression. When they find that what the gifts they possess can stir emotions in others as well as serve as a type of personal therapy there will be a desire to practice. I know im not in the majority but I actually find it fun to learn a new piece and break it down and build it up. I really encourage them to make practice fun and express whatever they feel music is trying to express.
So what do you think?
