16 genealogy trees update.
on: July 17, 2010, 11:33:42 AM
I have just put on the web all my current work. I have not had  enough time to include some of the suggestions posted on this forum. They will be included in the next update.

Here is the link:

Fascinating! Two suggestions (sorry if they've been made already):

Iso Elinson, pupil of Blumenfeld. Interesting because he came to the UK and taught some Brits. thus providing an international link (the only pupil of his I know is Ronald Stevenson but I believe he had several international successes among his pupils).

Elisso Virsaladze, pupil of Neuhaus and of Zak. Interesting because she has for at least 30 years been a highly sought-after teacher in Germany and Poland and has plenty of 'names' among her recent pupils.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.

Hi wojcia,

You've done fine work on constructing these piano teaching heritages.  After consulting my own "genealogy", I'd like to recommend that you include the following:

Under Alfred Cortot: David Barnett (1907-1985), world touring artist, composer and professor at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston

Under Tobias Matthay: Albion Metcalf (    -    ), German concert pianist and professor at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston

Under Ernst von Dohnanyi: Miklos Schwalb (1903-1981), Hungarian pianist and professor at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston

Under Isabel Vengerova (who also studied with Alexander Goldenweiser as well as Leschetizky): Anthony di Bonaventura (1930-    ), world touring artist and Professor of Music at Boston University's College of Fine Arts
Interpreting music means exploring the promise of the potential of possibilities.

Hi

Congratulations on the great job you did !

May I make a suggestion?

Under Liszt's pupils, there was one of great importance in the future of the portuguese piano school: José Vianna da Motta.

Vianna da Motta was Liszt's pupil and later the director of the National Conservatory in Lisbon (JVM's bio here: https://www.vdamotta.org/vmBio.htm ). He had several pupils, one of them is still alive and still playing, the great pianist and teacher: Sequeira Costa (bio here: https://www.vdamotta.org/costa.htm ).

Thanks

Your graphs are rather interesting! I found a few (small) errors whilst looking through:
Graph IV: 'Henri Hertz (1803-1888)', should be Henri Herz;
Graph VII: 'Johan Sebastian Bach (1675-1850)', should be Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Graph X: 'Guido Agosti (1091-1989)', should be 1901;
Graph XI: 'Carl Freidberg (1872-1955), should be Carl Friedberg.

I don't know how recent you want to make your trees, but you could add Martin Krause as a student of Franz Liszt.  Krause had Claudio Arrau & Edwin Fischer as students (amongst others I'm sure).

To everybody interested, i just moved the files onto the new website dedicated to the piano genealogy:

www.pianogenealogy.com.au

I thought it would be better if my work is not a part of my personal website. No further corrections or modifications done as yet so please be patient:)

I am testing some software that might allow me to include a search engine of some sort and so that people can possibly add their teachers  (after verification of course). I also want to make the website more print-friendly. And of course there is still a lot to do in the matter of content.
