Pitch
on: July 30, 2010, 03:57:45 AM
I'm new here, and very new to piano, though not necessarily to music.  Can anyone direct me to a good resource on discerning notes by ear?  I know I won't perfect it overnight but I would like to be able to get in the ballpark at least.  As it is, I think I'm taking a shot in the dark most of the time.

Thanks!

Have you considered getting a teacher?

I have a teacher right now, but it's not a very rigid schedule, I'm 21 and in a Master's program but decided that I wanted to learn piano on the side.  The teaching is kind of on my own with some help on technique.

When I brought up pitch, my teacher's response was that teaching me pitch would take an eternity and would slow down our lessons.

How about taking a class in college in  "ear training" .  I had a ear training class for a couple of years. So it wouldn't take eternity though.  Just check it out and see if you can enroll in a class like that.
