Where to play pianos for free in New York City?
on: August 05, 2010, 04:14:32 PM
This thread (https://ask.metafilter.com/98206/Where-to-play-piano-for-free-in-NYC-just-once) is very informative, but lacks specific places other than guitar centre, which is a terrible option because all the pianos are electronic and they yell at people for playing too long. So if you could name some hotel or something else where I can play without much hassle, I'd really appreciate it. By the way, the area most convenient for me is around Union Square.

I heard you can get lessons from bums on the street.  Very affordable that way. Those bums might know where the free pianos are.

This is uncanny that you'd ask about this.  Have you heard about the "Play Me I'm Yours" project in New York City?  60 pianos were installed throughout the city.  I heard about it a couple of weeks ago.

Have fun playing!

there's a steinway store across the street from carnegie hall.  loads of absolutely fabulous instruments.

the obvious follow-up question of course is "how do you get to carnegie hall?"   ;)
