I had no idea Glenn Gould ever recorded anything by Chopin.  But apparently this recording was locked away in the old CBC archives for years and then eventually released by Sony. :o

Gould is going to torment us from his grave?!  I think he would be rolling over in his grave if he knew this was released.  It's so obvious that it was kind of an experiment or test.  I was tempted to stop listening after the exposition (those two rolled chords at the beginning - ON the beat?!) but I persisted and it became more interesting as he went along.  When you're recording, it's sort of what you do.  You start out playing everything loud and of equal sound and then gradually begin to find the colors and dynmics.  Then you do  more takes and splice the thing together.  In fact, the recapitulation was much more refined.  Did you hear the final run at the end?  He ends with a d#!
