Program advice
on: August 13, 2010, 06:31:55 PM
Hi everyone,

I wanted to get some feedback on a program I'm thinking about. Please offer up suggestions for new pieces if  you think of something that would fit well. The two I'm pretty fixed on are the Les Baricades and the Barcarolle, but order is very flexible. And I've considered Beethoven's Tempest instead of the Bach, but I don't think it works following Couperin. I know it's on the short side, and could add some length, but I'm trying to do something realistic.

Les Barricades Mistérieuses
Couperin

Concerto in D minor after Alessandro Marcello, BWV 974
Bach trans.

-intermission-

Debussy Preludes:
Les collines d'Anacapri
La cathédrale engloutie

Barcarolle
Chopin

Thanks,
Steve

Perhaps Ravel's Jeux d'eau at the end?
I like your first part with Couperin and Bach, and then a big contrast after the intermission. Collines, under water, above the water surface with Chopin and then Ravel... :) Ravel and Debussy admired Chopin's Barcarolle as far as I know and were pretty much influenced by it.

This program really does not need an intermission; you'd have to add at least 20 minutes to each half to warrant an intermission.

It's a start, but you have to either do a half program (take out the intermission), or add more!

I like your program. Would you consider a Suite by Handel.....have a listen there are several to choose from. How about a Nocturne.....Field, Chopin, Faure, and/or Barber.....or set from each composer.

Best of luck,
