I'm a newbie completely ignorant of piano academia in any way shape or form, looking for other experiences with people who're into playing solo improv, tips along the way, et cetera.
Been playing for little over a year, and really just now been able to consistently play polyrythm the way I want. Getting that Keith Jarrett feel in my playing, and while I don't know neither notes nor a single scale, by experience the way forward for me has been to just get closer and closer to my own voice, and the chords etc come naturally.

Welcome to Pianostreet.
There is a fairly active improv community here. Head over to the audition room to hear others improvise or post your own recordings.
There is also a discussion going on here about improvisation:

Use the search function to see older discussions on the topic. There have been many.
