Uncomfortable throat
on: September 10, 2010, 02:57:54 AM
While I am thankful that I have a full studio, my throat is starting to bother me with all the talking I do. I try to talk as little as I can, and not talk as loud. I drink lots of tea during teaching too. Any suggestions??

Honey and lemon. If you don't like that then get a teaspoon of sugar and put a drop of Peppermint essential oil (100% pure) and suck it, letting it slowly go down your throat. Works a treat for me.

one quick visit to a speech therapist (speech and language pathologist) should be enough to cure you of that. they can teach you techniques for using your voice more efficiently and with less strain so that you don't run into this problem.
if you have any singing training, think of using good breath support at all times while speaking, and using an effortless resonant voice as opposed to forcing it.
full disclosure: yes, my darling wife is a speech therapist.
