on: July 22, 2004, 09:35:53 PM
Who played all these ?? And what are recordings of it...besides Marc-André Hamelin recording it for Hyperion label... These insane Godowski pieces have been described as touching territory that "Liszt didnt even dream of :P " .. especially regarding the left-hand
I haven't heard all of them ... so im looking to find alll available recordings.. thanks for your input...

Terry is talking about the Godowsky transcriptions of the Chopin Etudes, not the Chopin Etudes.

I know Hamelin, Grante, and Madge have recorded the entire set.  Hamelin is, of course, outstanding.  Grante is pretty good.  Madge plays them rather slowly.

Libetta plays the entire set in recitals, but I don't know if he has recorded them (except in an amateur video that was produced).

Kevin Hadsell also has made a quasi-midi recording (playing them much slower and then speeding it up to tempo).   I have heard samples of this and it is terrible.

There may be others......
