learning/review of foreign languages
on: September 27, 2010, 01:22:29 AM
Any good sites? Or materials, but I'm thinking more websites.

For learning and review.

I'm also thinking more European languages.

Bob I think you should start learning Slovenian language!  :P  :D  8) It's interesting!  :)
I found this site: https://www.101languages.net/slovenian/
I didn't know there were any sites for learning Slovenian...  :)

Yeah that site kind of looks like what I was thinking of.  I didn't notice the navigation bar on the left at first.

Ime mi je Bob.  Lepo, da sva se spoznala.  :)

I was thinking there's Live Mocha and the Rosetta Stone, although the Rosetta Stone is expensive and looks like it teaches by memorizing phrases.  I've seen a few college sites with drill exercises.

That is a good site.  Not too much depth but decent.  I've spent some time watching tv from other countries.

I would really suggest getting an intensive course for Slavic languages like Slovenian, for they are a monster to learn for native English speakers especially, due to its nature as a heavily inflecting language (English is not a heavily inflecting language by any means). It would also help to think about what use you could get out of using a chosen language, for it takes years to know a language well enough to have much practical usage from it. Even learning the easier Romance languages can take a bit of working at it, much less Slavic languages like Slovenian, Czech, Slovak, Russian, etc.

What's inflection exactly?

The Wiki article gives a lot of good examples in English and other languages. It really is a bit of a foreign concept in English (for most forms, anyhow).
