sight-reading lessons online
on: October 12, 2010, 02:43:16 PM
I have been playing piano for 8 years, and I still have problems with my sight-reading.

Of course, first I get the piece by reading the score and listening the piece. In fact, reading the notes are for me like a guide of what I listened before, listening the piece has been for me the main key in order to know if I am playing it right or not, if I should go fast or slow, fotre or piano, etc.

And that may be a problem in case I have to read the score before listening to the piece or if I want to get the piece in less time.

Where can I find free sight reading lessons onlne, please?

That's not really a good way to play.  Get some easier Heller from IMSLP and sightread through it.  I doubt there'll be any recordings out there.

I suggest Bela Bartok's Mikrokosmos, it is fairly easy and gets harder slowly, it is also not boring to play. Why don't you try to find a book on sight-reading as well?

Here is a website that gives free lessons; https://www.howtoplaypiano.ca/ I know that he has some tips on sight-reading as well.

I also use an alternate set of exercises for sight-reading, Leila Fletcher's books are fairly easy to sight-read. I am no expert on this matter, but I hope this helps. :)

Excuse me, I don't want to be rude with that question but I am intrigued, but what do you mean with "That's not really a good way to play"?

Listening first.  You should be able to find the music through the sheet otherwise you're only playing someone else's interpretation.
