I've never seen a piano like this. Is there actually music written specifically for this?

I read that Alkan wrote some music for the pedalboard piano...

whoa, I would love to see someone play on that piano!  It looks like a hybrid of a piano and an organ.  I wonder what Liszt could do on something like that...

I've never seen one quite like that, but I've read that some pianos in the 1700s (or maybe 1800s) had pedalboards.  There is a picture of one in the book titled Keyboard Instruments in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which I found at the library.  It says that they were used as practice instruments by some organists.
It's GREAT to be a classical musician!

It's called a pedalier, and Alkan did indeed write for it (and played one very often), including a duet for four feet only!
