New pieces
on: October 17, 2010, 05:53:30 PM
Hello, I am getting ready to enter Conservatory, and my current repertoire for auditions is the Bach WTC II A minor, Beethoven Op. 2 No. 3, Brahms, Op. 119, Chopin's Octave etude, and Prokofiev's first Sonata.  I am having trouble deciding what I should pick next since there is an abundance of repertoire out there.  I am think of learning the G Minor WTC II, Waldstein, and a few more Chopin Etudes, and a piece by either Debussy or Ravel.  Romantic works are where it's at.  Any suggestions for 19th and 20th Century works?

My Past Repertoire consisted of Chopin's 1st Ballade, Beethoven's Op. 90, Chopin's 1st Conerto,  and Bach Toccata in E Minor, just to give you a general idea of where I am at.

GET A JOB!!!....ooops, sorry, i just saw your name and though...well, whatever....  ;D

Making a repertoire suggestion for you is pretty difficult, as there is just too much choice.
The only suggestion i have is, why not play anything not that famous. waldstein, 0p2 no3, op90, the ballade, op119.... why not a lesser played beethoven like op26, op27 no1, op31 no1, op54 or op78... there's so much more choice. What about playing more pieces without a nickname  ;)

i think there are quite some misunderstandings here. who said my chemical romance? or did i accidentally quote one of their song? "na na na" perhaps? what's going on here?

to get back to topic (more or less), great to see you played the first prokofiev sonata. love that piece.

working on chopin etudes is always good idea. which one did you play already?

and as you're looking for new pieces, 19th/20th century is a bit vague. any preferences? composers? should it be long pieces? how difficult? fast slow?

I played Op. 10 No. 4.

I'm thinking of some Schumann or another Chopin piece.
20th Century, looking at Ravel or Debussy.
