Tips for Chopin's Nocturne op.9 no. 2
on: October 21, 2010, 02:18:28 PM
I am practicing (apart from other Chopin's pieces) the famous Nocturne op.9 no.2.

I only have to memorize the last part (it starts something like E,F,E,F,G; E,F,E,F,E,F,G...) with both hands, and I want to put more feeling, to be less monotonous.

Could you give me some tips in order to improve?, maybe a link in order to know more about the piece?,

I appreciate your help.

Dont overuse rubato for the piece. Take note of all the pedal marks and articulation. Remember the phrasing too. Don't bang too hard on forte and try to be sensitive with the use of dynamics. Finally, make the left hand part as smooth as possible.

You may want to listen Maria Joćo Pires playing this Nocturne. It`s a wonderful performing, I believe. Years ago, she recorded all the Nocturnes and it was a best seller. Also, you may listen her, playing Nocturne nr 1, in youtube. With Her, all is MUSIC.
Best wishes
